The 135X17 SPI needle (needle system 135X17) has an acute round point for working woven and knit fabrics. It is used in industrial lockstitch and general-purpose sewing machines for everyday garment and textile manufacturing. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Juki (classes ACF, ALS, AMS, APW), Brother (classes BAS -300E, BAS -311A, BAS -311E, BAS -311EL) and Singer (classes 61, 107, 111, 112).
Thinner needle sizes are used, among others, for medium-weight standard woven and knit fabrics for everyday garment production, and the thicker versions for heavy, multi-layer woven and knit fabrics as well as technical textiles. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Serafil (polyester) or Rasant (polyester/cotton).
