The 780 C03 needle (needle system 780) has a normal round point for working woven and knit fabrics. It is used in industrial lockstitch and general-purpose sewing machines for everyday garment and textile manufacturing. Thinner needle sizes are used, among others, for medium-weight standard woven and knit fabrics for everyday garment production, and the thicker versions for heavy, multi-layer woven and knit fabrics as well as technical textiles. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Serafil (polyester) or Rasant (polyester/cotton).
CANU is the abbreviation for "Catalog Number" and represents the system developed by the German needle manufacturer SCHMETZ and used worldwide today for the summary and identification of the same sewing machine needles, which have various designations specific to the sewing machine manufacturer (needle systems).
Tip with a pointed conical bevel. The normal round tip is the standard tip shape. With household needles this tip shape is used for the needles known as universal needles most of the time no top suffix «R» is used. Until the end of 2020, the nickel-plated needle was the standard for household sewing machines. Since then, Schmetz has been gradually converting production to "chrome-plated", as has been standard for industrial needles for decades.
