The needle of system 7X23 has a normal round point for working woven and knit fabrics. It is used in industrial lockstitch and general-purpose sewing machines, here mainly for technical applications such as saddlery goods, lifting, lashing and safety belts and the buffing-wheel industry rather than classic garment production. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Dürkopp Adler (classes 220, 221, H867-190060, H867-190060-70), Singer (classes 144, 145, 144 - A ALL CLASSES, 145 - A ALL CLASSES) and Styrteknik (classes HECbisR, INGEMAR, MULTIPLE LINE, WANDA).
Thinner needle sizes are used, among others, for heavy, multi-layer woven and knit fabrics as well as technical textiles, and the thicker versions for very heavy, multi-layer materials such as webbing, tarpaulins and upholstery composites. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Serafil (polyester) or Rasant (polyester/cotton); for heavy-duty use, a bonded nylon thread.
