The needle of system 971 B/1 has a normal round point for working woven and knit fabrics. It is used in industrial chainstitch and general-purpose sewing machines for everyday garment and textile manufacturing. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Dürkopp Adler (classes 367, 370, 371, 931). Thinner needle sizes are used, among others, for medium-weight standard woven and knit fabrics for everyday garment production, and the thicker versions for heavy, multi-layer woven and knit fabrics as well as technical textiles. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Serafil (polyester) or Rasant (polyester/cotton).
CANU is the abbreviation for "Catalog Number" and represents the system developed by the German needle manufacturer SCHMETZ and used worldwide today for the summary and identification of the same sewing machine needles, which have various designations specific to the sewing machine manufacturer (needle systems).
Tip with a pointed conical bevel. The normal round tip is the standard tip shape. With household needles this tip shape is used for the needles known as universal needles most of the time no top suffix «R» is used. Applications: - Lightweight fabric - Coated materials; heavy woven materials such as Tarpaulins - Laminated materials with soft plastic or thin cardboard (cardboard) - Foils - Leather/Textile combinations
Needles with a normal chrome coating can be recognized by their shiny silver surface. The chrome coating provides protection against wear and corrosion. The surface is smooth and protects the material and the thread. Chrome needles can be used for all standard applications. Compared to nickel-plated needles, chrome-plated needles improve the service life of the needle at higher stitch counts. At Groz-Beckert, the equivalent chrome coating is being gradually replaced by their more environmentally friendly "dur" process.
