The UY 154 GAS needle (needle system UY 154) has a small ball point for working knit fabrics, without damaging the loops. This is a curved needle: it penetrates only the surface of the material and stays invisible on the right side of the fabric – the standard design for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) machines. It is used in industrial chain-stitch special-purpose machines with a curved needle, among others for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) work. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Singer (classes 460, 695, 990, 990 -B), Willcox (classes 500, 503, 504, E) and Mauser (classes 503, 503 -II, 504, 504 -II).
In size NM:80/SIZE:12, this version is especially well suited to medium-weight knit fabrics for everyday garment production. A sewing thread in the range Nm 80/2 to Nm 50/2 is usually suitable, e.g. from Amann Serafil or Rasant; for very stretchy seams, a texturised thread also works well. The ball point glides between the loops instead of piercing them, keeping the seam clean and undamaged.
