The UY 8454 GAS needle (needle system UY 8454) has a small ball point for working knit fabrics, without damaging the loops. This is a curved needle: it penetrates only the surface of the material and stays invisible on the right side of the fabric – the standard design for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) machines. It is used in industrial chain-stitch special-purpose machines with a curved needle, among others for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) work. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Union Special (classes 39500 AV, 39500 AW, 39500 AX, 39500 AY), Pegasus (classes DCR, E 56, R, DCR - 805) and Singer (classes 460, 990, 993, 460 - 20 TO 21).
In size NM:75/SIZE:11, this version is especially well suited to fine, light jersey and tricot fabrics. A sewing thread in the range Nm 80/2 to Nm 50/2 is usually suitable, e.g. from Amann Serafil or Rasant; for very stretchy seams, a texturised thread also works well. The ball point glides between the loops instead of piercing them, keeping the seam clean and undamaged.
