CANU is the abbreviation for "Catalog Number" and represents the system developed by the German needle manufacturer SCHMETZ and used worldwide today for the summary and identification of the same sewing machine needles, which have various designations specific to the sewing machine manufacturer (needle systems).
Tip with a pointed conical bevel. The normal round tip is the standard tip shape. With household needles this tip shape is used for the needles known as universal needles most of the time no top suffix «R» is used. Applications: - Lightweight fabric - Coated materials; heavy woven materials such as Tarpaulins - Laminated materials with soft plastic or thin cardboard (cardboard) - Foils - Leather/Textile combinations
Until the end of 2020, the nickel-plated needle was the standard for household sewing machines. Since then, Schmetz has been gradually converting production to "chrome-plated", as has been standard for industrial needles for decades.
Tissue is a textile fabric consisting of at least two thread systems, warp and weft, which cross each other at an angle of exactly or approximately 90° when viewed on the fabric surface. Each of the two systems can be made up of several types of warp or weft (e.g. basic, pile and filling warp / basic, binding and filling weft). The warp threads run in the longitudinal direction of the fabric, parallel to the edge of the fabric, and the weft threads run in the transverse direction, parallel to the edge of the fabric. The threads are mainly connected to the fabric by friction. In order for a fabric to be sufficiently non-slip, the warp and weft threads usually have to be woven relatively densely. That is why, with a few exceptions, the fabrics have a coherent appearance. To sew fabric, positive displacement needles are always used and never a cutting point.
Hemstitch is a handwork technique used to decoratively finish fabric edges on plain-weave linen fabrics (including household linen such as tablecloths, bed sheets and aprons). It is one of the simpler variants of drawn-thread work. The fabric edge is folded over twice, as is common when finishing hems. At the point where the first fold lies, several threads are drawn out parallel to the folded edge. This exposes part of the threads running crosswise to the hem. The sewing thread is anchored in the folded hem, then the sewing thread is looped around several (usually three to five) of the exposed threads and stitched back through the folded hem. Continuing this, wrapping the same number of cross threads each time, bundles the cross threads together so that small holes form along the hem. The sewing thread visually recedes against the holes. This unobtrusiveness of the sewing thread was considered particularly desirable especially in the late 19th and early 20th century. In the course of the 20th century, hemstitch fell somewhat out of fashion again.
Ideal for sewing hems, hemstitches or decorative seams
