The UY 113 GS SF needle (needle system UY 113 GS) has a medium ball point for working knit fabrics, without damaging the loops. The SF version has an extra-slim point and eye area for the finest knit fabrics, but without blade reinforcement and therefore more sensitive to deflection. It is used in industrial overlock, coverstitch and safety-stitch machines for elastic knit fabrics. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Rimoldi (classes 066 - 01 ALL CLASSES, 066 - 11- 09 TO 26, 066 - 13 OTHER CLASS, 066 - 24), Gemsy (classes GEM-1404, GEM-1404PL, GEM-1404PMD, GEM-1404PTV) and Kansai (classes DFB-1402MR, DFB-1404P, DFB-1404PMD, DFB-1404PSF).
The available needle sizes are used, among others, for fine, light jersey and tricot fabrics. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Serafil or Rasant; for very stretchy seams, a texturised thread also works well. The ball point glides between the loops instead of piercing them, keeping the seam clean and undamaged.
