The needle of system 1738 KK has a eccentric round point for working woven and knit fabrics. The KK version has a short shank butt. It is used in industrial lockstitch and general-purpose sewing machines for everyday garment and textile manufacturing. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Singer (classes 46), Porkert (classes ENGLER KL 36, ENGLER KL 131) and Dürkopp Adler (classes 569). At strength NM:70/SIZE:10, this version is especially well suited to light, fine woven and knit fabrics such as blouse and shirt fabrics. A sewing thread in the range Nm 80/2 to Nm 50/2 is usually suitable, e.g. from Amann Serafil or Rasant (polyester).Package contents: pack B10 with 10 needles
CANU is the abbreviation for "Catalog Number" and represents the system developed by the German needle manufacturer SCHMETZ and used worldwide today for the summary and identification of the same sewing machine needles, which have various designations specific to the sewing machine manufacturer (needle systems).
Needles with a normal chrome coating can be recognized by their shiny silver surface. The chrome coating provides protection against wear and corrosion. The surface is smooth and protects the material and the thread. Chrome needles can be used for all standard applications. Compared to nickel-plated needles, chrome-plated needles improve the service life of the needle at higher stitch counts. At Groz-Beckert, the equivalent chrome coating is being gradually replaced by their more environmentally friendly "dur" process.
Short Piston The shorter piston of the KK variant is used in industrial sewing machines (often overlock, coverstitch, or specialized leather and buttonhole machines) where space on the needle bar is very limited. The shortened piston end allows for additional fabric thickness during the stroke in some machine classes. Since the distance from the piston end to the needle eye is identical in both variants, a 134 KK can be used in many standard machines instead of a regular 134. However, it usually doesn’t work the other way around: If you insert a standard size 134 needle into a pure “KK machine” , the piston—which is too long—hits the top of the needle bar, causing the needle eye to sit too deep and resulting in skipped stitches or a broken needle.
