CANU 20:05YL1 The needle of system 134 has a wedge point (pearl point) for working coated and synthetic materials as well as synthetic leather. It is used in industrial sewing machines for coated and synthetic materials, where a cutting point would damage the coating. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Pfaff (classes 22, 28, 33905, 34), Juki (classes ACB, ACF, AEC, ALS) and Singer (classes 20, 61, 107, 108).

Thinner needle sizes are used, among others, for thinner films and light synthetic leather, and the thicker versions for thicker, multi-layer synthetic leather and heavy PVC coatings. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Rasant or Serafil (polyester); for heavy-duty use, a bonded nylon thread. The wedge point displaces the material's fibres instead of cutting them, protecting the coating.

COATING:	CHROME Needles with a normal chrome coating can be recognized by their shiny silver surface. The chrome coating provides protection against wear and corrosion. The surface is smooth and protects the material and the thread. Chrome needles can be used for all standard applications. Compared to nickel-plated needles, chrome-plated needles improve the service life of the needle at higher stitch counts. At Groz-Beckert, the equivalent chrome coating is being gradually replaced by their more environmentally friendly "dur" process.
