The UY 154 GAS SPI BLUK needle (needle system UY 154) has an acute round point for working woven and knit fabrics. This is a curved needle: it penetrates only the surface of the material and stays invisible on the right side of the fabric – the standard design for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) machines. It is used in industrial chain-stitch special-purpose machines with a curved needle, among others for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) work. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Singer (classes 460, 695, 990, 990 -B), Willcox (classes 500, 503, 504, E) and Mauser (classes 503, 503 -II, 504, 504 -II).
In size NM:90/SIZE:14, this version is especially well suited to medium-weight standard woven and knit fabrics for everyday garment production. A sewing thread in the range Nm 80/2 to Nm 50/2 is usually suitable, e.g. from Amann Serafil (polyester) or Rasant (polyester/cotton).
This version has a BLUKOLD coating: a roughened, phosphated surface with a subsequent Teflon coating, on which melt residue settles much later than on chrome-plated needles. It is especially suited to synthetic materials and materials with a high synthetic-fibre content.
