CANU 06:62MA3 The needle of system UY 8454 has a narrow round point for working woven and knit fabrics. This is a curved needle: it penetrates only the surface of the material and stays invisible on the right side of the fabric – the standard design for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) machines. It is used in industrial chain-stitch special-purpose machines with a curved needle, among others for overlock, blind-stitch and linking (kettling) work. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Union Special (classes 39500 AV, 39500 AW, 39500 AX, 39500 AY), Pegasus (classes DCR, E 56, R, DCR - 805) and Singer (classes 460, 990, 993, 460 - 20 TO 21).

Thinner needle sizes are used, among others, for light, fine woven and knit fabrics such as blouse and shirt fabrics, and the thicker versions for heavy, multi-layer woven and knit fabrics as well as technical textiles. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Serafil or Rasant (polyester).

This version has a BLUKOLD coating: a roughened, phosphated surface with a subsequent Teflon coating, on which melt residue settles much later than on chrome-plated needles. It is especially suited to synthetic materials and materials with a high synthetic-fibre content.

NEEDLEPOINT:	SPI/S SET - Round point pointed Needle with a very slim, pointed tip. Enables precise piercing of tightly woven and coated materials. Produces a clean, flawless seam appearance and minimizes seam puckering. Applications: - Very densely woven material such as microfibre and silk - Thin, coated materials - Thin, smooth materials such as e.g. Taffeta - quilting seams for shirt processing (shirt collar, cuffs, front strips) - elastomer threads not braided - manufacture of furs and skins
COATING:	BLUKOLD (BLUK) Special needle with a roughened, phosphated surface and subsequent Teflon coating. Melt residue does not settle on this coating, or only much later than on e.g. chrome-plated needles. The needle stays clean longer – skipped stitches and thread breakage are minimized. Applications: - Synthetic materials - Materials with a high synthetic content - Materials with special finishes Use: Before using the needle on light-coloured materials, sew a test seam of approx. 50 cm so that the slight Teflon abrasion does not affect the quality of the finished product. Colour changes on the needle during use have no effect on its function or usability.
SPECIAL:	Curved (overlock, blind stitch, kettling) Curved needles, apart from a few special cases (such as looper/linking needles), come in two main groups: 1. the slightly curved overlock needles 2. the strongly curved blindstitch needles. In the overlock field, there is now almost only one standard system B-27 (DCX27 as well as old designations such as MY 1023 and UY 191 GS). This straight needle is manufactured by Schmetz in the SERV 7 design as standard (deep special hollow groove, reinforced shaft), since very high sewing speeds (up to 8,000 stitches/min) are used, requiring a very stable needle. Curved overlock needles are still very rarely used in the hosiery industry.
