The 1564 FL-E needle (needle system 1564) has a normal round point for working woven and knit fabrics. It is used in industrial lockstitch and general-purpose sewing machines, here mainly for technical applications such as quilting rather than classic garment production. Suitable machine classes are found, among others, at Meca (classes CONVERT 84'', CONVERT100'', CONVERT122'', FARSIDE ECO 84'') and Sotexi Pik-Pik (classes MBR, R 64, R 67).
Thinner needle sizes are used, among others, for light to medium-weight technical textiles and upholstery fabrics, and the thicker versions for heavy, multi-layer woven and knit fabrics as well as technical textiles. As sewing thread, a matching thickness is usually recommended depending on the needle size chosen, e.g. from Amann Serafil (polyester) or Rasant (polyester/cotton); for heavy-duty use, a bonded nylon thread.
