COOL
To counteract the frictional heat of the needle, SCHMETZ needle cooling was developed and patented in 1954. With this system, a reduction in needle temperature of about 25% could be achieved! The system was built into various machines and/or retrofitted at industrial plants, but unfortunately was not able to become widely established.
The needles specially manufactured for this purpose are marketed under the additional designation «COOL», but can also be used in normal systems. The only difference lies in an additional channel for air supply from above (see image).
This channel alone can already bring about better cooling of the needle, since less material on the needle means less frictional energy is generated on the one hand and less energy is stored on the other.
