Single jerseyOriginally fabric from the circular knitting machine, now generally knit fabric with a jersey finish.
Single jersey is the simple plain knit or plain-knit lining fabric.
Highly elastic knit fabric (lycra, silk jersey)Lycra or silk jersey are knitted fabrics (also called warp-knit or knitwear) made from thread systems, produced industrially by loop formation on a knitting machine. They belong to the knitted fabrics.

This distinguishes knitted fabrics from woven fabrics, in which the fabric is produced by interlacing two thread systems, and also from nonwovens, in which a loose fibre web is consolidated, for example, by heat.
Compared to woven fabric, knitted fabric is characterised by greater stretch and elasticity and, as a result, less creasing. A distinction is made between weft-knitted (Strickware), warp-knitted (Wirkware), rib-knitted (Rippware) and plain weft-knitted (Kulierware) fabrics.
During production, several stitches are pre-formed simultaneously and worked into loops. In contrast, in the production of weft-knitted fabric, each needle is free and works independently of the others.
Cotton knit fabricCotton is a natural fiber from the seed head of the cotton plant. Cotton can be excellently spun and permanently dyed and has the dry handle typical of plant fibers. It is more abrasion-resistant than wool, which is one reason it is also widely used for upholstery fabrics. Cotton is also very tear-resistant and heat-resistant — it can be hot-ironed and steamed. It never builds up static electricity and can be easily brushed up, for example for flannel.

In 1979, the fabric was introduced by Malden Mills Industries Inc. (USA). The company markets its products under the brand Polartec and is considered the world market leader in this field.
Fleece is not a woven fabric but a knitted fabric. During knitting, plush loops are formed, which are then cut open and brushed up. Because fleece is pronounced like the German word „Vlies“ (nonwoven), confusion with nonwoven fabric is common in German-speaking countries.
Fleece is used mainly for warm functional clothing in outdoor sports, such as jackets, trousers, hats, gloves, but also blankets.
VelvetFabric with a short (2 to 3mm) pile.
Warp velvet is cut wire-woven fabric (wire velvet) or fabric produced by the double-plush weaving process (double velvet) with varying pile position (standing pile, half and fully laid pile). In warp velvet, the pile is formed with the warp, and the pile binding (pile-up and pile-through binding) takes place at the weft thread.
In weft velvet, the pile is formed by pile wefts that are bound off by the warp threads. The pile loops are cut open after weaving. Weft velvet differs from warp velvet through its high weft density and through the pile binding.
Rib velvet = corduroy.
gauzeA translucent fabric in plain (calico) weave, named after the city of Gaza, usually heavily sized, used as an embroidery base fabric (canvas), sieve fabric (miller's gauze) or stiffened gauze.
